Abstract

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) management during pregnancy presents unique challenges, especially in resource-limited settings. This study explores the perspectives of Indian healthcare providers on hyperglycemia management in pregnant women with T1D. Key challenges identified include limited access to continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), insulin pump therapy, and multidisciplinary care. Using a qualitative, multi-center approach, in-depth interviews were conducted with endocrinologists, obstetricians, and diabetes educators from urban and rural regions. Key challenges identified include limited access to continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), insulin pump therapy, and multidisciplinary care. Financial constraints, lack of patient awareness, and delayed diagnosis further hinder optimal glycemic control. Insights from this research offer valuable recommendations for policymakers and healthcare professionals to improve maternal and fetal outcomes in T1D pregnancies.
The session will provide insight to the significant challenges healthcare providers face in managing hyperglycemia during pregnancy in T1D in India. The importance of individualized care, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the development of region-specific guidelines will be discussed during the session. By sharing key insights from this study, I aim to highlight actionable strategies to optimize maternal and fetal health outcomes in similar resource-constrained settings.
